FracShow - Version 2.0
Addendum
(c) Bourbaki, Inc. 1993
(208)342-5849
INTRODUCTION
============
FracShow is a utility program for running a wide variety fractal slide shows.
Version 2.0 has been enhanced beyond the simple command line version documented
in the Utilities chapter in the FracTools Manual. The new features include:
* User Interface for Selecting Directories and Specifying Options
* Run Time Directory Traversing Capability
Note - FRACSHOW can still be run using the command line parameters and options
described in the FracTools Manual.
The FracShow program will provide hours of engaging and relaxing visual
stimulation. It provides the key to producing your own fractal videos...
RUNNING FRACSHOW
================
To run FRACSHOW you should be LOGGED INTO the \FT3 directory of your CD ROM
drive, or it must be referenced in your DOS PATH command. To run the program:
* Type - FRACSHOW - and press <Enter>
This will display the FracShow Set Up screen. Settings include:
* Video Mode
* Image Directory / Directory Branch
* Slide Show Option
* Kaleidoscope Filter
* Random (or Linear) Image Sequence
VIDEO MODE OPTION
-----------------
The Video Mode option enables you to specify the mode in which to run shows.
The default mode is 640x480 / 256 colors. To change modes, click on the
desired option.
If the "run" mode is different than the actual image mode, FRACSHOW will
automatically scale the images "on the fly." This real time mode conversion
includes both number of colors and image resolution.
SPECIFYING DIRECTORIES
----------------------
FracShow will load images from the current directory, AND from sub-directories
OFF the current directory. For example, if you want to run a show that
randomly loads ALL the 640x480 / 256 color FracTools (.FF0) images:
* Click on Browse
* Highlight and select the IMAGES.6X4 directory
* Click on OK, then Click on Run
When you run a show, FracShow will load images from the ALLKINDS, BENNYS,
CAMSZOOM, PATTERNS and SWIRLS directories.
To RUN a show from a SINGLE directory - e.g. \IMAGES.6X4\PATTERNS - you would:
* Highlight and select the \IMAGES.6X4\PATTERNS directory
* Click on Run
You can also click in the Directory window in the main screen and enter the
desired drive and directory path.
SLIDE SHOW VARIATIONS / OPTIONS
-------------------------------
FracShow provides 12 different slide show options. All of these shows are set
up to run "forever," until you click the right mouse button, or press the <Esc>
key to stop them.
Use the "drop down" List Box to select from the following options:
Random #1 - All Random effects with short "dwell" in each image
Random #2 - All Random effects with long "dwell" in each image
Fades #1 - Fading palettes from one image to the next
Fades #2 - Random load effects with Fading palettes
Pours #1 - Pouring palettes from one image to the next
Pours #2 - Random load effects with Pouring palettes
Strobe #1 - Strobing palettes from one image to the next
Strobe #2 - Random load effects with Strobing palettes
Overlay #1 - Image Grids with Sequential positioning
Overlay #2 - Image Grids with Random positioning
Overlay #3 - Overlaying Images randomly with Fading Palettes
Overlay #4 - Overlaying Images, each getting smaller symmetrically
KALEIDOSCOPE FILTER OPTION
--------------------------
The Kaleidoscope Filter option enables you to have all images in a show load
such that they are mirrored horizontally and vertically. This feature is
especially effective with non-symmetrical images, like the PATTERNS images.
Note - Due to the additional processing involved in "Kaleidoscoping" images,
activating this feature will slow things down. This is reflected in a longer
dwell in an image, while the next image loads into memory.
RANDOM vs. LINEAR SSEQUENCE OPTION
----------------------------------
The Random option enables you to specify the order that images are loaded from
a directory. The default setting is Random, which will result in images being
loaded in random order from the specified directory(s). If you deactivate the
Random option, images will load in alphabetical order.
Random will provide the most diversity. However, a good example of using
Linear would be running a show - e.g. Strobe 1 - from the \IMAGES.6X4\CAMSZOOM
directory. These images represent a "zoom" sequence that starts deep in the
Mandelbrot Set and backs out to the fringe of the Set. Running this show in
the default Linear order will illustrate and display this series of images,
in the order they were generated.
